Wilkes Women's Ice Hockey Falls to Nazareth
WILKES-BARRE – Visiting Nazareth College jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two periods and never looked back posting a 10-0 shutout against Wilkes University Friday night at the Toyota Sportsplex.
Wilkes remained winless at 0-3 on the year while Nazareth kept its overall record perfect at 3-0 on the season.
Nazareth opened the scoring with one of two power-play goals 13:05 into the first period before adding another strike with under two minutes left in the opening frame to take a 2-0 advantage.
Another power play goal started the second for the visitors at 10:52 before back-to-back goals from Keeley Rose pushed the lead to 5-0 after two periods.
Nazareth added a shorthanded tally and four more even strength goals in the third period on way to the victory.
Ally Joly and Alexa Rango split time in net for Wilkes as Joly finished with 28 saves and Rango 13 stops. Nazareth held a 51-11 shot advantage in the contest.
Wilkes University President Dr. Patrick Leahy dropped the ceremonial puck prior to the beginning of the game to kickoff the start of the women's program.
The two teams meet again tomorrow (Saturday) at 3:30 p.m. at the Toyota Sportsplex.
