ROCHESTER, NY - The United Collegiate Hockey Conference is pleased to recognize the accomplishments of numerous talented student-athletes in advance of this weekend’s championships with the release of the 2018-19 All-UCHC teams and UCHC major award winners. This year’s honorees shaped and defined the course of the conference’s young history as the UCHC completed its second regular season in 2018-19. Award winners were selected by the league’s coaches.
Elmira College’s Katie Granato is the 2019 UCHC Women’s Player of the Year. As an Elmira senior, she has set the scoring pace for the Soaring Eagles to finish undefeated and untied in the conference as they chase another opportunity to win the national championship. Granato was the UCHC leader in conference points per game (1.72), and conference goals per game (0.94) this season. She finished the regular season with a 17-14-31 scoring line in league play. Overall, she is fourth in the nation at 1.68 points per game, and is one of just three players in the nation to average a goal per game. She had 42 points overall on 25 goals and 17 assists. She was second in UCHC play with six power play goals.
Joining her in the major awards is teammate Meg Lahey, the 2019 UCHC Defensive Player of the Year. Lahey led the nation in defensive scoring at 1.12 total points per game, which tied her with fellow UCHC player Keeley Rose of Nazareth. Lahey was the leading collector of assists in UCHC conference play this season with 21, four more than any other player in UCHC games this season. She was part of a defense that has limited UCHC opponents to just eleven goals this season, and was third in the nation at 0.96 goals allowed per game.
William Smith’s Abbey Luth is the 2019 UCHC Rookie of the Year. The Heron freshman finished fourth in the conference with 27 points in UCHC play this season, and averaged 1.50 points per conference game. She tied for second in the conference with fifteen goals in league contests, and was just outside the top ten in assists. The freshman has 18 goals and 13 assists for 31 total points and was fourth in rookie scoring nationally.
The UCHC crowned co-women’s Goaltenders of the Year for the first time this season. Nazareth freshman Adrianna Brehm was one of the two honorees after backstopping the Golden Flyers to the No. 2 seed in the UCHC tournament. She was 12-3-1 in conference play with a UCHC save percentage of 93.8 percent and a conference goals allowed average of 1.53. Her conference GAA was the third best in the conference. She is seventeenth nationally in overall save percentage and fourteenth in goals allowed average.
Lebanon Valley’s Jillian Moffatt was the other top choice for Goaltender of the Year after another stellar season. She made a conference-high 841 saves in conference play this season, and posted a 93.4 percent save percentage and 3.34 goals against average overall on the campaign despite having to make over 1,100 saves over the course of the entire season.
Nazareth’s Chris Baudo was named the UCHC Coach of the Year in his first season earlier this week. The full honorees are below.
