UTICA, NY - The Utica College women's hockey team kept its momentum rolling Saturday as it downed Kings College 5-0 to pick up the series sweep.
The Pioneers have now outscored their opponents 34-0 over their last four games. Utica is also in the midst of a shutout streak that currently stands at 256:32. UC (4-1, 3-0 UCHC) will look to carry its momentum into a conference showdown at Stevenson University next weekend. Friday's game will begin at 7 p.m. while Saturday's contest is scheduled for 3 p.m.
Senior Georgiana Santullo extended her scoring streak to four games as she put in her 10
th of the year at 5:19 of the first period. Erica Sloan and Carly Stefanini tallied assists on the play.
Utica tacked on an insurance tally with 2:24 remaining in the opening period when Rebecca Brown fed Abby Lillis from behind the net. Lillis fired a shot through the five-hole for her first of the year. Nicole Flak also picked up an assist on Utica's second goal.
The Pioneers took a three-goal lead at 14:50 of the second stanza as Alexa Carlon buried a loose puck in front. Flak and Carloyn Whitney assisted on Carlon's second of the season.
The Pioneers added a pair of special teams goals in the final six minutes to put the game away. First, Sloan capitalized on a Kings turnover and made a nifty move to roof a backhand shot into the top of the net for a shorthanded tally at 14:02.
Then, just 2:07 later, Santullo put in her second of the day and team-leading 11th goal of the year as she banged home a rebound. Sloan and Stefanini picked up assists on the powerplay tally.
Sophomore Angela Hawthorne stopped all 11 shots she faced for her second straight shutout. Her counterpart, Syd Dahl finished with 56 saves in the loss.
