HARTFORD, CT – Playing a team outside of the UCHC for the first time this season, the Manhattanville College women's hockey team played to a 2-2 tie against Trinity College on Tuesday night. The tie moves the Valiants' overall record to 5-1-1 on the season. Manhattanville goaltender Franny Gerardi set a new season high with 55 saves in the tie, playing all 65 minutes of the contest.
After the Bantams recorded the lone goal of the opening period on a Martina Exnerova goal, Gabrielle Cox scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season a minute and a half into the second. The score would remain even at 1-1 through the rest of the period as Gerardi stopped all 21 shots fired her way of the 20 minute frame.
The Valiants would take the lead four minutes into the third period, capitalizing on a power play opportunity. Annie Niedermier was able to finish a pair of passes from Faithe Harris and Holly Meredith to net her second goal of the season and the team's sixth power play tally of the year. Trinity would get the goal back four minutes later on a Hannah Feinberg shot. The Bantams had a chance to take a late lead after Ana Tittmann was called for hooking with five minutes left in regulation. Trinity did get two shots off on the man advantage, but neither snuck past Gerardi as the game went to overtime still tied at 2-2.
The Bantams got the majority of the chances in the five minute 3-on-3, outshooting Manhattanville 4-1 on net in overtime. Neither team was able to get a puck past the respective keepers, however, as the game would end with the 2-2 tie.
The Valiants were 1-for-5 on power play opportunities, while Trinity went 0-for-3 on their advantages. Manhattanville went 28-36 in faceoff attempts, with Grace Felicio winning 14 draws for the Crimson and White.
