Santullo's Natural Hat Trick Leads Utica to Win in Conference Opener

CALMAR, PA - The Utica College women's hockey team came away with an 8-0 thumping of host Arcadia University in its United Collegiate Hockey Contest opener Friday evening. Senior Georgiana Santullo netted her second career hat trick in the win.

The Pioneers wasted little time getting on the board as graduate student Rebecca Brown tallied her first of the year just 1:51 into the game.  Sophomore transfers Molly Pedone and Brooke Hubert picked up the assists on the opener.  Just 2:58 later, Santullo put in her first of the day, off assists from Alexa Carlon and Carolyn Whitney to make it 2-0 in favor of the Pioneers after the opening period.

Utica doubled its lead in the second period thanks to a pair of goals by Santullo to cap off the natural hat trick.

The third period was all Utica as the Pioneers tacked on four more scores in the final frame.  Carly Stefanini scored twice in the third, while Hubert and Madison Novotny each netted their first collegiate goals.

Sirena Fitzery finished the day with three assists, while Whitney and Erica Sloan each chipped in with two helpers.  Carlon, Cortney Staniszewski, Caley Susitti, and Maggie Rylott each had one assist, and Pedone and freshman Callie McLaughlin each tallied their first collegiate points with an assist apiece.

Angela Hawthorne turned aside all 15 shots she faced for her first shutout of the season and the second of her career.

The teams wrap up the season series on Saturday.  Puck drop is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
