Utica Remains Perfect in UCHC Play with Sweep of Alvernia

READING, PA- The Utica College women's hockey team picked up its fourth conference sweep of the year and remained perfect in UCHC play as it downed host Alvernia University 5-0 on Saturday.  Sophomore Alexa Carlon picked up her first career hat trick in the win.
 
The Pioneers improve to 8-2 overall and will wrap up the first half of their season Tuesday as they travel to nearby Morrisville State.  Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
 
Carlon got things going at 14:52 of the first period as she put in her third of the year off assists by Maggie Rylott and Carolyn Whitney.  Utica tacked on an insurance tally 2:59 later when Rebecca Brown found the back of the net off a feed from Brooke Hubert.
 
Carlon netted her second of the day just 56 seconds into the second period as she connected with Whitney and Rylott for the second time.  Whitney then scored one of her own at the midway point of the period with help from Callie McLaughlin and Carlon capped of the day at 15:38 with her third score thanks to assists by Rylott and Fitzery.
 
Savannah Gutierrez made 18 saves for her second shutout of the year.  Meanwhile Julia Beaven turned aside 44 shots for the Golden Wolves.
