Stevenson Rolls to 6-1 Win Over King's

WILKES-BARRE, PA - The Stevenson women's hockey team recorded a dominating 6-1 win over King's College on Friday afternoon at Revolution Ice Centre.

  • The Mustangs started off strong and fast as they scored their first goal of the game within the first 11 seconds after winning the opening faceoff. KaliJo Zagula passed the puck from the right side to Ally Gibson who fired it into the right lower side of the net. 
  • Stevenson held possession throughout the period and at the 5:35 minute mark, Breanna Crosson passed the puck to Gracie Payne. Payne got it to Cassie Campbell as she fired off the shot from the middle to go up, 2-0. 
  • The Mustangs held possession until three minutes later when King's cut Stevenson's lead as the Monarch's got on the board. 
  • The Mustangs got back at King's as less than a minute later at the 9:20 minute mark, Robyn Caswell and Campbell assisted Katelyn Reid for Stevenson's third goal of the game. 
  • The next half of the first period was more lowkey until King's had a power-play opportunity at the 16:31 minute mark. In the Monarch's two-minute opportunity the team was only able to get off one shot. 
  • Stevenson led, 3-1 to close out the first period with Campbell already adding two assists on the day. Caswell adds her first assist of the season. 

  • Stevenson gets going again in the second period at the 3:50 minute mark, as Maddie Silverman assists Zagula who ripped a shot into the right side of the net.
  • Midway through the period, the Mustangs had the chance at a power-play. While the Mustangs held control over the two minutes, they were able to get off three shots on goal that were saved by the Monarch goalie. 
  • Thirty seconds following the end of the power-play Stevenson was able to capitalize on another goal. Tea Ferrara took a shot that was rebounded off the goalie's pads to the post. Paige Sullivan picked up the rebound and passed the puck back to Ferrara to Stevenson's fifth goal of the game. 
  • Following the Mustang's fifth goal, King's made the decision to switch goalies. 
  • At the 14:42 minute mark, Zagula and Gibson assisted Ferrara for her second goal of the game and of the season. 
  • Stevenson had another power-play opportunity at the end of the period but couldn't find the inside of the net. 

  • Stevenson once again held control throughout the final scoreless period. 
  • Within the first five minutes of the third period, the Mustangs ripped ten shots but all were unsuccessful. 
  • Stevenson kept on trying to find the back of the net with 39 total shots in the period while King's managed to just get off six shots. 

  • The Mustang's 101 shots against King's are a team season-high. 
  • Stevenson won, 37 faceoffs while the Monarch's just won 15 
  • Kings had a great defensive effort as they blocked 19 of Stevenson's shots and made 57 total saves. 
  • Ainsley King was back in the net for the Mustangs in the new year as she totaled 13 saves. 

  • Stevenson is back at it tomorrow against King's at 2 PM
