RYE, NY - The Utica College women's hockey team avenged its loss from the day before as it downed Manhattanville College 7-2 in UCHC play on Saturday to earn the series split. Graduate student Rebecca Brown led the Pioneers with four points on the day.
With the win, Utica improves to 14-3 overall and remains in second place in the conference standings with an 11-1 mark in league play. The Pioneers return home next weekend to host Neumann University. Game time is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on Friday and 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Utica jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first 13 minutes of the opening period behind goals from Holly Silva and a pair of powerplay tallies from Brown. Manhattanville got one back with 4:09 remaining in the first to make it 3-1 after 20 minutes.
Senior Georgiana Santullo scored her first of two goals on the day in the second period to give Utica a 4-1 lead heading into the final frame. The Valiants once again made it a two-goal game, this time off the stick of Kerry Carr, but Brown netted her third of the day just 11 seconds later to regain the three-goal cushion. This marks the first career hat trick for Brown, who now has a five-game scoring streak.
Sophomore Nicole Flak put in a feed from Hailey Modlin for her second of the season, and Santullo capped off the day with her team-leading 20th goal of the year. Carly Stefanini, Ava Suda, Caley Susitti, and Erica Sloan each had one assist in the win.
Sophomore Angela Hawthorne had 14 saves in the win, while Franny Girardi totaled 28 saves for Manhattanville.
