Alvernia Opens Season with 11-1 Win Over Hilbert

Reading, PA - Alvernia University (1-0) opened up its 2022-23 season with an 11-1 win over Hilbert College (0-1) on Friday evening in non-conference women's ice hockey action at Body Zone.

Alvernia broke its single-game goal record, and Sydney Bradley broke the single-game assist record with four. Olivia Gilida also recorded a hat-trick with three goals.

Hilbert, a first-year program, spoiled Alvernia's shutout bid with a goal in the final minute of action. 

After eight minutes of scoreless action to open the game, the Golden Wolves opened the scoring frenzy with a goal in the ninth minute from Amber Steinhilpert on Bradley's first assist of the game. Four minutes later, Carolyn Burton recorded her first career goal on an assist from Shae Hudec. 

Alvernia allowed just one shot by the Hawks in the first period as the Golden Wolves took the 2-0 lead.

The Golden Wolves added three more in the first 12 minutes of the second period with goals from Olivia Gilida, Alex Robertson, and a short-handed goal by Steinhilpert. Gilida then added her second of the second period in the 17th minute to make it a 7-0 game after two periods.

The Golden Wolves continued the pressure in the third period, making it an 8-0 goal on Burton's second goal of the game in the 45th minute on a power play goal.

Hudec added her second of the game in the 50th minute to make it 9-0, and Gilida recorded her third for the hat trick to make it 10-0. Bradley also recorded her record breaking assist on Gilida's hat trick goal. 

Julia Franklin capped off Alvernia's scoring frenzy with an unassisted goal with three minutes to play.

The Hawks spoiled Alvernia's shutout bid with a goal in the final minute. The goal from Abbey Macneil marked the first goal in Hilbert history.

Gilida's three goals and Bradley's four assists led Alvernia's offense. Abby Reisinger led Alvernia with ten faceoff wins and added three assists. 

Julia Beaven and Mandy Kaminsky split time in net for Alvernia.

Alvernia is back in action tomorrow hosting SUNY Canton at 12:30 PM.
