Luth, Flanagan and Lyden Lead No. 5 Nazareth Past Wilkes

WILKES-BARRE, PA – Graduate student Abbey Luth scored a goal and added three assists while sophomore Ivey Lyden and freshman Abby Flanagan each added a pair of goals as the Nazareth Women's Hockey team scored five times in the first period and took a 7-0 victory Saturday to complete the weekend sweep of Wilkes.

The game was scoreless until midway through the first period when Luth scored to break the tie. Graduate student Ali Fujiyoshi and freshman Zoe Dupuis picked up assists on the play.

Less than two minutes later, Lyden netted the first of her two goals to double the lead as Luth and senior Olivia Miller-Johnson.

Senior Ally Watrous started a late period flurry as she scored at the 17:16 mark with Luth and freshman Sydney Gurlea adding helpers. Senior captain Makenna Wiljanen scored 44 seconds later and Flanagan completed the flurry 43 seconds later as Nazareth raced to the 5-0 lead. Freshman Corsica Skibinski and junior Kate Cascio added assists.

There was no scoring in the second period but Lyden scored six minutes into the final period for he second of the game and the 6-0 Nazareth lead. Sophomore Maggie Pfalzgraf had one assist and freshman Emili Haratani was credited with an assist in her first career game.

Flanagan capped the scoring with her second of the contest at the 10:49 mark.

Freshman MaÏka Paquin made her first career start and earned the win with seven saves as Nazareth outshot Wilkes 60-7.

Nazareth returns home for a pair of games against Lebanon Valley Friday and Saturday.
