Franklin’s Hat Trick Leads Alvernia Past Neumann, 4-0

ASTON, PA - Sophomore Julia Franklin was responsible for three of Alvernia University's (4-1-2, 3-0) goals in a 4-0 win over Neumann University (0-7, 0-5) on Friday night in UCHC women's ice hockey action at Neumann.

The Knights started out fast, firing in three shots in the opening two minutes. Alvernia goalie Julia Beaven was able to make the three saves to keep Neumann off the board.

Alvernia swung the offensive push to its favor as the period reached the halfway mark, and Julia Franklin put the Golden Wolves on the board with nine minutes to play in the period off the assist of Lexi Hooper.

Both the Knights and Golden Wolves traded power plays in the final ten minutes of the period, but neither could put anything in the net as Alvernia held the 1-0 advantage going into the second frame.

Alvernia peppered in shots in the early minutes of the second period, and the Golden Wolves were able to double up on their lead with Franklin's second goal of the night coming after five minutes of second period action. Hooper again assisted on Franklin's goal, and Fiona Stewart added the second assist.

Just four minutes later, Franklin completed the hat trick with a goal off the assists of Sydney Bradley and Olivia Gilida to give Alvernia the 3-0 lead.

Alvernia went on to outshoot the Knights 15-8 on goal in the second period as the Golden Wolves took the 3-0 lead into the final 20 minutes.

The Knights outshot Alvernia in the early minutes of the third period, but it was the Golden Wolves who found the back of the net again. This time Carolyn Burton got in on the scoring with Hooper providing her third assist of the night and Alex Robertson providing the second assist. Burton's goal gave Alvernia the 4-0 lead with just over 11 minutes to play.

The Alvernia defense killed off a 4v4 power play with about seven minutes to play, and Beaven made several late saves as the Golden Wolves came away with the 4-0 win over the Knights.

Franklin led Alvernia with her three goals, and Hooper finished with three assists. Robertson finished with an assist and went 16-for-19 on faceoff opportunities. Beaven picked up the shutout win in net for Alvernia with 26 saves.

Alvernia is back in action tomorrow as the Golden Wolves host the Knights at 7:00 PM to close out the series.
