ROCHESTER, NY – Third period goals by junior Ally Watrous and freshman Sophia Nortz propelled the Nazareth Women's Hockey team to a 4-1 win over Chatham Saturday as the Golden Flyers completed the sweep of the weekend series to start the season.
Nazareth (2-0 overall, 2-0 UCHC) scored early as graduate student Nikolle Van Stralen scored her first goal of the season 2:52 into the game to give the Golden Flyers the early lead. Sophomore Sydney Swanson had the assist on the play for her fourth assists of the weekend.
Midway through the second period, Chatham (0-4, 0-2 UCHC) knotted the score with a power play goal.
Just less than three minutes later, Nazareth found itself on a power play and freshman Abby Flanagan knocked in a rebound after a Watrous shot to regain the lead for Nazareth.
Watrous scored just 1:39 into the final period to put the Golden Flyers up 3-1 as freshman Sydney Gurlea and senior Ali Fujiyoshi earned assists.
As time was running out, Nortz netted an empty net goal to seal the victory.
Junior McKinley Hoff finished with 23 saves to earn another victory and remains unbeaten in her college career.
Nazareth will travel to Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania for a pair of conference games against Wilkes Friday and Saturday before heading back home for a UCHC weekend series against Lebanon Valley before the Thanksgiving break.
