Balanced Scoring Lifts Wilkes To 4-2 Win Over Stevenson

REISTERTOWN, MD – Four different Colonels scored on way to the Wilkes University women's ice hockey team's 4-2 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC and United College Hockey Conference (UCHC) victory over Stevenson University Saturday night  at the Reistertown SportsPlex.
 
Wilkes improved its overall record to 3-6-1 overall and 3-3-1 in UCHC play following the road win. Stevenson dropped to 5-5 overall and 3-3 in league contests. The win also marked the first victory over the Mustangs in program history.
 
Emma Bresett opened the scoring for Wilkes with an even strength goal at the 8:57 mark of the first period with asissts from Kiera Lacombe. The Colonels lead grew to 2-0 four minutes later when Sarah Uhall notched her first goal of the season thanks to Lacombe's second helper of the frame.
 
Stevenson answered back in the second period scoring back-to-back goals at the 5:52 and 8:02 marks both at even strength to tie the game at two.
 
Abigail Barcless then struck for the eventual-game-winning goal when she deposited a shot into the back of the net off a pass from Bresett with 9:04 left in the period. Julie Patterson added an insurance goal just under four minutes later with assists credited to Gianna Manzi and Barcless.
 
Neither team scored in the final period as Wilkes earned a split in the season series with the Mustangs.
 
Stevenson outshot Wilkes 39-28 in the contest while winning 40-of-58 faceoffs.
 
Addy Olson finished with 31 saves in net for Wilkes to record the victory.
 
Wilkes will remain idle through the Christmas and New Year holidays before returning to action Friday, January 6 when the Colonels host Chatham University at 5:00 p.m. at the Toyota SportsPlex.
