ASTON, PA – The No. 10 Nazareth women's hockey team posted its highest output of the season on Saturday, downing Neumann 12-0 behind goals from 10 different scorers. Abbey Luth and Makenna Wiljanen each tallied two goals and one assist in the victory, while Ally Watrous picked up three points behind a goal and two assists.
Nazareth moves to 9-1 overall and remain unblemished in league play at 8-0, while Neuman drops to 1-9 and 1-7, respectively.
The Golden Flyers equaled their goal total from Friday in just one period of play on Saturday.
Sydney Gurlea opened the scoring for Nazareth nearly seven minutes in, scoring her first-career goal. The freshman used her speed to outskate the defense and her shot was able to trickle in past the Kinghts goaltender.
Just over two minutes later, Luth scored with some nice stick work to push the Golden Flyers advantage to 2-0.
Later, Sophia Nortz cashed in on a puck thrown in front net by Watrous, collecting the puck, deking the goaltender, and tucking it in behind for the tally.
After a beautiful give-and-go with Makenna Wiljanen, Watrous scored to make it 4-0.
The final goal of the period came from Julia Holmes as she slashed in from the side boards and beat the goaltender nearside.
Olivia Miller-Johnson got in on the scoring to make it 6-0 in the second. Later in the period, Ali Fujiyoshi fired a puck in behind the net that Luth collected and snuck into the net for the 7-0 lead. Wiljanen and Abby Flanagan also added goal in the period.
Nazareth added three more goals in the last period. Just :30 seconds in, Wiljanen tallied her second goal, unassisted. Freshman Emili Haratani scored her first-career tally near the midway point from Alexis Jones and Gurlea. The last goal of the game came from Ivey Lyden from Sophia Nortz and Flanagan.
The Golden Flyers will have a quick turnaround, traveling to Williams College on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. faceoff. It will be Nazareth's final game of 2022, before opening the next semester with a home contest against Stevenson at 7 p.m. on January 6.
