UTICA, NY - There was plenty to celebrate as the Utica College women's hockey team came away with a lopsided 12-1 victory over Wilkes University Friday afternoon.
With the win, Utica improved to 19-3 on the year (16-1 UCHC). 19 wins in a season ties the program record, set by the 2015-2016 installment of the Pioneers. UC will go for history on Saturday as it wraps up the season series against the Colonels. The contest will also be Utica's eighth annual gold ribbon game for childhood cancer awareness. Game time is 2:30 p.m.
Senior Georgiana Santullo made history of her own as she netted two goals to set a new single-season goal-scoring record with her 26th goal of the season. The previous record of 25 was set by former All-American Deana Wiegand and has stood for 18 years. Santullo now has 47 points on the year.
Junior Erica Sloan joined Santullo with a five-point evening of her own as she netted three goals and added two assists. Classmate Carolyn Whitney meanwhile recorded her first career hat trick and she also had a helper.
Sophomores Carly Stefanini and Alexa Carlon each had a goal and two assists, while Maggie Rylott, Caley Susitti, and Sirena Fitzery dished out two assists apiece. Defenders Madison Novotny and Holly Silva also got in on the action as they each had a goal and an assist.
Sophomores Angela Hawthorne and Maddie Esposito combined for 10 saves in net, with Esposito also getting credit for an assist.
