Wyomissing, PA - With under one second left in overtime, Sydney Bradley was able to sneak a goal in to lift Alvernia University (9-9-1, 7-6-1) to a 4-3 win over Arcadia University (7-13, 6-9) on Friday night in UCHC and MAC women's ice hockey action at Alvernia's Body Zone.
Following a third period that saw a combined four goals scored, two lead changes, and two ties, the back-and-forth game went to overtime. After Alvernia killed off a penalty and saw time expiring, the line of Bradley, Shae Hudec and Alex Robertson were able to connect for the game-winning goal with .9 seconds left on the clock.
After a scoreless first period, Karahkwenhaw White netted the first goal of the night after about four minutes of action.
Just eight minutes later, Alvernia evened things up at 1-1 when Olivia Gilida scored a five-hole goal off the passes of Sydney Bradley and Alex Robertson.
The Golden Wolves got off just one shot the rest of the period while holding off a barrage of shots from the Knights to take the 1-1 tie into the third.
At the 3:47 mark of the third, White netted her second of the night to break the 1-1 tie on a power-play goal for the Knights.
Just under four minutes later, Alvernia tied it up for the second time off an unassisted goal from Bradley.
After ten minutes of scoreless action, the Golden Wolves were awarded a power-play. Alvernia needed just six seconds to find success on the power play. Abby Reisinger deflected a shot in from Bradley off the left post at the 17:49 mark to make it a 3-2 game in advantage of Alvernia.
Arcadia pulled its goalie with just over a minute remaining and sent six into the zone. With about 25 seconds left on the clock, the puck was jammed against the boards with players from both sides trying to knock it loose. Arcadia was able to knock if off the boards to Brooklyn Henderson who was free at the top of the zone and fired it past Beaven to lock the game up at 3-3 with 25 seconds left in regulation.
Neither team got a shot off in the final seconds as the game went into overtime.
Alvernia came into overtime firing and possessed the puck for the first half of the five minute overtime, but were unable to find the net. The momentum then shifted in favor of the Knights as Bradley was sent to the box for tripping.
The Golden Wolves were able to kill off the penalty and were back to even strength with 36 seconds left in overtime.
The game looked to be going to a shootout, but Bradley, Hudec, and Roberton had other plans. As the last second started to tick off the clock, Bradley was able to find the back of the net after getting the puck through a crowded crease.
Robertson finished the night with three assists, and Bradley finished with two goals and two assists. Julia Beaven picked up the win in net with a 33 save performance.
Alvernia looks for the series sweep on Sunday at Arcadia.
