Utica Outlasts Lebanon Valley for 17th Win of Season

HERSHEY, PA - The Utica College women's hockey team used four unanswered goals including three in the third period to down host Lebanon Valley College 4-1 in UCHC play Friday evening. The Pioneers improved to 17-3-0 on the season and moved into a tie for first place in the league standings with 42 points.

Lebanon Valley got on the board first at 14:34 as Chloe Glass put in an unassisted tally.  Utica responded just over four minutes later when senior Georgiana Santullo netted her team-leading 23rd goal of the season.  With the goal, Santullo moves into a tie with Pioneer Hall of Famer Jill Nolan for second in the program's single-season record book for goals. Carly Stefanini and Holly Silva picked up the assists on Utica's opener.

The score remained the same until 6:50 of the third when junior Erica Sloan jumped on a clearing attempt near the Utica blueline. Sloan was able to corral the puck and ward off a Lebanon Valley defender as she netted her team-high third short-handed tally this season.

The Pioneers struck again at 11:21 as Carolyn Whitney put in a feed from Maggie Rylott for her ninth of the season.  The Pioneers capped off the scoring with 4:14 remaining when Rylott scored a goal of her own.  Sophomore Alexa Carlon assisted on Utica's powerplay tally.

Utica was 1-for-3 on the powerplay, while the Dutchmen were held scoreless on four chances with the man advantage.  Sophomore Angela Hawthorne stopped 27-of-28 shots she faced, while her counterpart, Shelby Guinard made 39 saves.

The teams wrap up the season series Saturday. Game time is 2 p.m.
