COLMAR, PA – Graduate student Delaney Carle and sophomore Maggie Pfalzgraf each scored third period goals to lift the Nazareth Women's Hockey team to a 3-0 victory over Arcadia Friday night in a United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) game in Pennsylvania.
After a scoreless period and a half, senior Makenna Wiljanen broke a scoreless tie as she stuffed a loose puck past the Arcadia (6-6-2 overall, 2-5-2 UCHC) goalie for the first goal of the game. Senior Morgan Leuenberger started the scoring play with a clearing pass to graduate student Abbey Luth who carried the puck into the offensive zone before sending a pass to Wiljanen in front of the goal. After the original save, Wiljanen tucked the loose puck into the goal for the 1-0 Nazareth (12-3-0, 11-0-0 UCHC) lead.
In the third period Carle scored her first goal of the season to cap a play started by junior Julia Holmes as Nazareth took the 2-0 lead less than six minutes into the final period.
Seven minutes later, Pfalzgraf capped the scoring with assists from sophomore Sydney Swanson and Carle as the Golden Flyers skated to the 3-0 win.
After a slow start, Nazareth finished with a 33-12 edge in shots as junior McKinley Hoff stopped all 12 shots for her eighth win and fourth shutout of the season.
The same two teams finish the weekend series at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
