Reading, PA - Alvernia University (7-5-3, 6-3-1) scored two second period goals en route to a 3-0 victory over Stevenson University (5-9-0, 3-7-0) in UCHC women's ice hockey action Saturday afternoon at BodyZone.
A scoreless first period saw Stevenson outshooting the Golden Wolves 22-15 with 11 shots going on goal. Alvernia's Julia Beaven saved 11 of those 22 shots as the game went into the first intermission locked at 0-0.
The Golden Wolves opened up the scoring just three minutes into the second period when Amber Steinhilpert and Carolyn Burton assisted Gillian Evans as Alvernia took a 1-0 lead early in the second.
Alvernia would rattle off 12 shots in the next 15 minutes before Kathryn Palmer found the back of the net thanks to assists by Sydney Bradley and Julia Franklin as the Golden Wolves went into the final intermission with a two goal advantage.
The Golden Wolves continued to control the game as they fired 16 shots in the third period with ten going on frame before Franklin tallied her second goal of the series in the 18th minute. Olivia Gilida tallied the assist as the Golden Wolves sealed the 3-0 victory and the series sweep.
Beaven recorded the shutout victory in net for the Golden Wolves and tallied 17 saves.
Alvernia was led by Franklin with a goal and an assist, Evans and Palmer both added goals as well. Gilida finished with a team high six shots on goal and added an assist, Burton tallied an assist and finished with four shots. Steinhilpert and Bradley also tallied assists.
The Golden Wolves are back in action next Friday when they travel to Wilkes to take on the Colonels at 3:30 PM.
