Reading, PA - Alvernia University (9-5-3, 8-3-1) completed the weekend sweep of Wilkes University (3-12-1, 3-9-1) with a 5-1 victory in UCHC women's ice hockey action Saturday afternoon at BodyZone.
The Golden Wolves got on the board first with just over 16 minutes into the first period when Abby Reisinger found the back of the net after assists from Kathryn Palmer and Julia Franklin.
Alvernia made it 2-0 just a minute later when Palmer and Olivia Gilida assisted Amber Steinhilpert to give the Golden Wolves a two goal advantage with under three to play in the first.
Wilkes grabbed one back with 1:11 left in the period when Bella Kaczorowski found the back of the net thanks to assists from Rachel Morey and Julie Patterson as Alvernia held a 2-1 lead heading into the first intermission.
Alvernia controlled the second period, firing 17 shots on goal in the first 15 minutes of the second period before Sydney Bradley netted a goal with 1:27 on the clock to give Alvernia a 3-1 lead. Gilida and Palmer both tallied their second assist of the day.
Shae Hudec made it 4-1 Golden Wolves just 16 seconds later when she buried the puck into the back of the net after assists from Lexi Hooper and Reisinger, Alvernia took a commanding 4-1 lead into the final intermission.
The Golden Wolves scored one more insurance goal under two minutes into the third period when Carolyn Burton and Hudec assisted Palmer to make it 5-1.
Julia Beaven got the win in net for the Golden Wolves and tallied 28 saves.
Alvernia was led by Hudec and Reisinger who both had a goal and an assist. Palmer tallied a goal and three assists and Gilida added two assists as well.
Alvernia is back in action next Friday when they travel to Chatham to take on the Cougars at 7:00 PM.
