ROCHESTER, NY – Senior Ally Watrous moved into the top spot on the Nazareth season scoring list with two goals and an assist as the Golden Flyers skated to a 4-0 win over Stevenson Friday night in a United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) game at the Chick-fil-A Arena at the Bill Gray's Iceplex.
The three points give Watrous a total of 16 points on the season to lead Nazareth (10-2 overall, 9-0 UCHC). The senior scored 2:15 into the game with an assist from graduate student Gabriella DeMeo for the early Nazareth lead.
Fellow graduate student Nikolle Van Stralen doubled the lead to 2-0 10 minutes later with an assist from Watrous as the Golden Flyers dominated play in the opening period with a shots advantage of 19-1. The Stevenson (5-6, 3-4 UCHC) shot came with less than a minute to play in the period.
In the second stanza, Watrous scored again to push the lead to 3-0 with an unassisted goal midway through the period.
Freshman Abby Flanagan scored her eighth goal of the season less than a minute into the final period for the final margin of victory. Senior Morgan Leuenberger and junior Julia Holmes assisted on the play.
Nazareth finished with a 43-7 shots advantage and each team was 0-for-2 on power play attempts.
The same two teams will wrap up the weekend series at 3 p.m. Saturday.
