Neumann Upends Hilbert College for Weekend Sweep

ASTON, PA – The Neumann University Women's Hockey team won their second straight game against Hilbert College, and third overall, on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 5-1.

Much like Friday night's game, the first period was a scoreless endeavor. With 12:37 left in the second, Neumann was able to strike as Jasmine Martinez popped in her first goal of the campaign and Lian Sydorowicz earned the assist for a 1-0 lead. Hilbert tied the game up with just under a minute left in the period.

Both teams battled back-and-forth in the third, but it was the Knights who would take control of the game at the 7:01 mark, thanks to a Sydorowicz goal. Jamiyah Alexander and Martinez had the assists to regain the lead. 53 seconds later, Sydorowicz struck again, this time on the power play after a Georgia Wunder shot. With 5:23 left, Cecelia Mick scored another power play goal for Neumann. Emma Tauken and Kyra Filighera had the assists from a three-goal lead. Gabby Massa closed out the scoring at the 16:16 mark with Meg Landman getting the assist.

In addition to her three point game, Sydorowicz had five shots on goal, as did Massa. Kaila Booth put up four shots. Tauken also helped on the defensive end with a team-leading three blocked shots. Michelle Winand-Bacon picked up her first win of the season with an 18 save effort.

Neumann (3-3, 0-2 UCHC) will return to action on Friday when they host the Alvernia University Golden Wolves. The opening puck drop is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
