ROCHESTER, NY – A day after defeating King's (PA) College 4-0 at the Tim Horton's Iceplex, the Nazareth women's hockey team dropped the Monarchs by that same score on Saturday. Ivey Lyden, Sydney Gurlea and Abby Flanagan each netted their first goals of the season.
No. 13 Nazareth moves to 4-1 on the season and 4-0 in UCHC play, while King's drops to 1-5 and 0-4, respectively.
Near the midway point of the first, Nazareth got on the board on Makenna Wiljanen's third of the year. Lyden fed Wiljanen on the sideboards before she knifed into the middle and backhanded in a goal.
With just 46 seconds remaining in the period, Lyden was in excellent position to score her first of the season. Kate Cascio threw it off the boards behind the net and Lyden banged in the rebound. Sophia Nortz also picked up an assist.
Gurlea got her first of the year late in the second period on an assist to Lindsay Moses in close.
It was 3-0 after two periods.
Nazareth's fourth goal came as Ella Cedrone wrapped the puck around the net and Flanagan banged in the puck with over six minutes remaining.
Syd Dahl was strong in net for the Monarch's, making 50 saves. For Nazareth, McKinley Hoff made three saves in 52:51 of action, while Rebecca Mullahy saw her first action, making two saves in just over seven minutes of play.
Nazareth will be away for the rest of its games this semester, beginning next weekend at Chatham in Pittsburgh, PA.
