OWINGS MILLS, MD – The Nazareth women's hockey team cruised to its first win of the season on Friday night, defeating Stevenson by a 5-0 score. Allie Zack, Ingrid Holstad, and Meredith Boettcher each scored their first goals for the Golden Flyers.
Nazareth is now 1-1 overall and 1-0 in UCHC play, while Stevenson is 1-3 and 0-1, respectively.
In the first period Nazareth generated 22 shots on goal but were unable to break through.
The Golden Flyers found the back of the net twice in the second period off power play goals. At the midway point of the period, Zack lit the lamp of an assist from Alexis Kindred and Abby Flanagan.
Nearly six minutes later, the power play was at it again with graduate student Ingrid Holstad scoring her first goal for the purple and gold. Assists were credited to Ella Cedrone and Julia Holmes. It was 2-0 after 40 minutes.
The flood gates opened in the third period as Nazareth scored three goals in a span of just over five minutes. Boettcher got things started off an assist from Zack and Kindred.
Less than three minutes later, freshman Ella Cedrone notched her second of the season from Boettcher and Flanagan.
The final goal of the game came from graduate student Makenna Wiljanen off a feed from Ivey Lyden and Holstad.
Maïka Paquin played all 60 minutes and earned the shutout, making seven saves.
Nazareth will square off against the Mustangs at 3 p.m.
