Pittston, Pa (November 4, 2023) - Alvernia University (4-0, 2-0 UCHC) completed the sweep over King's College (1-3, 0-2 UCHC) with a 5-1 victory over the Monarchs in a UCHC women's ice hockey matchup Saturday afternoon at King's.
The Golden Wolves got on the board first in the eighth minute of the first period when Sikke Ask netted a powerplay goal thanks to assists from Kathryn Palmer and Lexi Hooper as Alvernia took the early 1-0 lead.
Alvernia fired 12 shots at the King's goal in the next seven minutes before Khenzie Connick and Riley Hill assisted Julia Franklin to make it 2-0 Alvernia with just over four minutes remaining in the first period.
King's sent four shots at the Alvernia net but blocks from Noelle De Magistris and Kayla Moriarty and a save from Julianna Rodgers kept the Monarchs out of the goal and sent the game into the first intermission with Alvernia leading 2-0.
The Golden Wolves fired 13 shots at the Monarch's net in the first 11 minutes of the period but King's goalie Syd Dahl saved ten of the 13 shots to deny Alvernia a third.
King's pulled within one with 9:01 left in the period when Sammi Stead and Jordan Dittmar assisted Issy Lebrun to make it a 2-1 game.
The Golden Wolves responded almost immediately when Palmer scored her first goal of the season thanks to an assist from Laila Tosi to extend the Alvernia lead back to two, 3-1 with under eight to play.
Alvernia tallied its fourth of the day with six minutes to play in the period when Palmer recorded her second assist of the day after she connected with Alex Robertson who found the back of the net to put the Golden Wolves up 4-1.
The Golden Wolves then scored their third goal in three minutes when Connick found the back of the net to put Alvernia up four, 5-1 heading into the final intermission.
The Monarchs fired nine shots at the Golden Wolves goal in the final 20 minutes of play but Rodgers saved six of the nine shots to secure the 5-1 victory.
Rodgers tallied ten saves in net for the Golden Wolves and earned the win, her third of the season.
Palmer led the Golden Wolves with a goal and two assists, Connick led with a goal and an assist and Tosi, Hooper and Hill all recorded assists. Hooper tallied a team high six faceoff wins and both Palmer and Gillian Evans recorded four.
Alvernia is back in action next Friday when they host Arcadia in a UCHC matchup at 7:00 PM.
