OWINGS MILLS, MD – Sophomore Corsica Skibinski scored a pair of goals and the Nazareth University Women's Hockey team completed the weekend sweep with a 6-1 victory over Stevenson University Saturday afternoon in a United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) game.
Nazareth (2-1-0 overall, 2-0-0 UCHC) took control in the first period, when Skibinski scored an unassisted goal five minutes into the game.
Graduate student Ingrid Holstad scored her second goal of the weekend on the powerplay just two minutes later, with assists credited to the defensive tandem of junior Ivey Lyden and senior Julia Holmes.
Skibinski tallied another goal right at the halfway mark, with assists from Holmes and graduate student Makenna Wiljanen.
The second period held scoreless until the Mustangs (0-4-0, 0-2-0) managed to capitalize on the powerplay to trim the lead to 3-1.
Nazareth responded with a late goal when senior captain Kate Cascio scored in the last minute of the period, Freshman Ella Cedrone had the lone assist on the play.
Freshman Meredith Boettcher scored her second goal of the weekend halfway through the third period, with assists credited to sophomore Zoe Dupuis and freshman Alexis Kindred. Wiljanen closed out the scoring with a powerplay goal assisted by Holstad and Cedrone.
The Golden Flyers ended with a 64-8 edge in shots.
The Golden Flyers home to Tim Horton's Iceplex Friday and Saturday for a weekend series against King's College.
