Women's Ice Hockey Alvernia Athletic Communications

Alvernia Blanks Stevenson, 3-0

Owings Mills, MD (Dec. 1, 2023) - Alvernia University (7-1-1, 5-1-1 UCHC) used two first period goals to power past Stevenson University (1-11, 0-6 UCHC) for a 3-0 win over the Mustangs in UCHC women's ice hockey action at Stevenson. 

Alvernia peppered the Mustangs in the opening minutes, firing off 16 shots in the opening 12 minutes. Alvernia broke through on its 17th shot as Khenzie Connick found the back of the net off the assist of Julia Franklin.

The Golden Wolves needed just three minutes to double up on their lead as Franklin and Connick swapped roles with Franklin finding the back of the net off the assist of Connick to give Alvernia the 2-0 lead.

The Mustangs ended the first period on a power play and fired off two quick shots, but the Golden Wolves held off attempts to take the 2-0 lead into the break.

After a scoreless second period, Alvernia needed just over a minute into the third period to take a 3-0 lead as Franklin scored her second of the night off the assist of Sydney Bradley. 

The Mustangs outshot the Golden Wolves in the final frame, but Alvernia, behind goalie Julia Beaven, held off the Mustangs for the 3-0 win.

Franklin led Alvernia with two goals and an assist and Beaven finished with 19 saves in net for the shutout win. Carolyn Burton finished with three blocks and Franklin also had 11 faceoff wins. 

Alvernia is back in action tomorrow at Stevenson looking for the series sweep.
