PITTSBURGH, PA – Graduate student Ingrid Holstead led the Nazareth University women's ice hockey team to a 3-1 win over Chatham University in a big UCHC conference match-up Friday night. Senior Julia Holmes scored her first of the season in the victory.
#14 Nazareth continues its success and improves to 5-1-0 overall and remain undefeated in conference play at 5-0-0, while Chatham suffers their first loss of the season for a 6-1-1 record overall and 4-1-0 in conference.
The Golden Flyers immediately took control of the game, and Holstead managed to net her third of the season about halfway through the first period off a great feed across the crease from fellow graduate student Makenna Wiljanen.
Just 2:23 into the second, Nazareth went on the power play and about 20 seconds later, Holstead increased the lead 2-0. Holmes dished the puck from the top of the zone to freshman Ella Cedrone, who sent a pass through the crease for Holstead to net her second goal of the game.
Holmes scored the third goal of the game off a pass from sophomore Lexi Jones as she came down from the point to fire one past the Chatham goaltender. Freshman Maggie Jacoby was also credited with an assist.
Naz lead 3-0 heading into the third period.
With under 6 minutes left to play in the game, Chatham managed to capitalize on the power play as junior Rainey Jessup managed to get one past senior goaltender McKinley Hoff in a net-front scrum, with freshman Morgan Black and sophomore Liv McTavish earning the assists. Hoff made 16 saves for the game.
