Nazareth Earns Win Over Alvernia

ROCHESTER, NY – After more than a month on the road, the Nazareth Women's Hockey team welcomed the home fans back with a 4-0 win over Alvernia on the strength of a goal and two assists from team co-captain Makenna Wiljanen.

Nazareth (17-5-0 overall, 16-1-0 UCHC) dominated the early play but could not find the back of the net until a blast from the point by sophomore Sydney Swanson found its way into the back of the goal with less than five minutes to play in the opening period as the Golden Flyers went up 1-0. Wiljanen and sophomore Maggie Pfalzgraf earned assists on the play.

Senior Ally Watrous scored six minutes into the second period to push the lead to 2-0 and junior Kate Cascio made it a 3-0 lead three minutes later with assists from Abbey Luth and Wiljanen as Nazareth held a commanding 39-4 edge in shots through the first two periods.

In the third period, Wiljanen scored on a nice give-and-go passing display with freshman Corsica Skibinski to cap the scoring.

For the game, Nazareth held a 54-11 shots edge.

The same two teams will wrap up the weekend series with a 4:30 p.m. game Saturday.
