No. 12 Utica Takes Care of Business at Wilkes

WILKES-BARRE, PA - The No. 12 Utica University women's hockey team recorded its 10th shutout of the 2022-23 season with a 4-0 road win over the Wilkes University Colonels on Saturday.

The Pioneers had four different goal-scorers in the win as Carly Stefanini, Erica Sloan, Maggie Rylott and Molly Pedone each had one. Sloan and Stefanini also led the team with two points as the pair were two of eight players to assist on goals.

In goal, Breese Burlingame recorded a 17-save shutout in her first collegiate start.

Despite putting 15 shots on goal in the first period, Utica failed to score as the team went into the second period scoreless. However, Burlingame was able to help keep Wilkes off of the board as well with six saves in the first including shutting down each of the Colonels' power plays.

It wouldn't take long for the Pioneers to score in the second period as Stefanini converted on the team's first power play of the game at 2:59. Seven minutes later, Sloan doubled the team's lead with a goal at 9:55. Rylott went on to give the Pioneers a second period trifecta with a goal at 18:26 as the team led comfortably 3-0 entering the third.

Early in the third, Burlingame helped shutdown Wilkes' third power play of the afternoon while shortly after, Pedone added a fourth Utica goal at 9:23 which turned out to be the final dagger.

In all, Utica denied Wilkes on each of its four power plays while the Pioneers themselves went 2-for-4 on the advantage. Utica also finished the game with a convincing 57-17 shots on goal advantage and a 35-18 faceoff edge.

No. 12 Utica (19-1-2) and Wilkes wrap up their two-game series at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday.
