ROCHESTER, NY – A balanced attack with six different goal scorers led the Nazareth Women's Hockey team to a 6-1 win over Chatham University Saturday and a return trip to the United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) title game next weekend.
Nazareth (21-5-1) advances to the championship game and will face No. 2 seed Utica after the Pioneers (22-2-3) scored a 7-1 win over Manhattanville in a semifinal game at Utica.
Nazareth and Utica played a pair of overtime games a week ago in the regular season final weekend as the Golden Flyers won a shootout and an overtime game in the matchup.
Against Chatham, Nazareth scored three times in the first period as senior Morgan Leuenberger and juniors Julia Holmes and Maggie Pfalzgraf each scored to put the Golden Flyers up early with a 3-0 lead. Graduate student Abbey Luth and senior Makenna Wiljanen each had the first of two assists in the game during the early scoring run.
In the second period, Chatham scored to narrow the gap to 3-1 early in the period but freshman Abby Flanagan scored with 1:28 left in the stanza to regain the three-goal advantage.
Flanagan then assisted on the first goal of the third period and senior Ally Watrous scored to extend the Nazareth lead to 5-1.
Six minutes later, freshman Corsica Skibinski tipped in a shot from the point to cap the scoring as Pfalzgraf and Wiljanen earned assists on the play.
Nazareth doubled up Chatham with a 34-17 shots advantage as junior McKinley Hoff finished with 16 saves to earn her 15th win of the season.
