Nazareth Power Play Nets Three Goals in 4-1 Win over Alvernia

READING, PA – The Nazareth women's hockey team demonstrated its power play prowess on Friday in a 4-1 road win against the Alvernia University Golden Wolves. No. 15 Nazareth improves to 8-5-1 (8-0-1 UCHC), while Alvernia falls to 7-6-1 (6-4-1 UCHC).
 
The scoring opened just 1 minute and 24 seconds into the game, when freshman Alexis Kindred netted her third goal of the season off a rebound from fellow freshman Meredith Boettcher's backhand shot. The first period ended 1-0, with Naz having a 10-2 advantage in shots on goal. 
 
Alvernia went on the power play early in the second and freshman Sikke Ask capitalized in a net-front scramble for the Golden Wolves' lone goal of the game.
 
Nazareth answered later in the period with a power play goal of its own, as Boettcher scored her seventh goal of the season, with assists credited to freshmen Allie Zack and Ella Cedrone. 3:30 later, the Golden Flyers were back on the extra attacker and freshman Nikki Sharp was able to score off the backdoor rebound from Abby Flanagan. 
 
The third period began with both teams handing off power plays, but only Nazareth's Zack was able to capitalize with a blast from the point off a pass from Boettcher to lengthen the lead 4-1. The period continued in a similar fashion with teams trading penalties for a game total of 26 penalty minutes.
 
Naz ended the game with the shots advantage 65-22 in their favor.
 
Senior goalie McKinley Hoff made 12 saves in net. 
 
The Golden Flyers look to complete the weekend sweep against the Golden Wolves on Saturday at 2 p.m.
