ROCHESTER, NY – Freshman Meredith Boettcher scored the first three goals of the game for the sixth hat trick in school history as the Nazareth University Women's Hockey team completed the United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) weekend sweep with a 6-0 win over Wilkes University Saturday afternoon.
Boettcher scored once in the first period and added two more in the second period to give Nazareth (7-4-1 overall, 7-0-1 UCHC) a commanding lead. The hat trick was the first since Ally Watrous scored four goals against King's February 5, 2022. It is the first natural hat trick in school history.
Wilkes (6-6-1, 4-6-1 UCHC) came out strong in the third period with five early shots in the period but senior McKinley Hoff made all the saves and eventually recorded her second shutout of the season and her 17th career shutout to tie the school record for career shutouts.
The Golden Flyers recovered from the early Wilkes pressure to score three additional goals later in the third period for the final score.
Freshman Nikki Sharp scored at the 8:45 mark of the period to give Nazareth a 4-0 lead.
Seven minutes later, senior Julia Holmes scored from the point to extend the lead and freshman Ella Cedrone scored late in the period to cap the scoring.
The win kept the Golden Flyers unbeaten in UCHC play and extended their conference game win streak to 18 consecutive games. The streak included three wins in the UCHC Tournament last season as Nazareth won its second consecutive conference title.
Hoff finished with 17 saves with seven in the second period and eight in the third period to record the record tying shutout.
Nazareth will host Williams College Tuesday night.
