Holstad and Boettcher Lead Nazareth Past Manhattanville

ROCHESTER, NY – Graduate student Ingrid Holstad buried a shot early in the third period on a crossing pass from junior Ivey Lyden to give the Nazareth University Women's Hockey team to a 2-1 win over Manhattanville Friday afternoon to extend its win streak to 11 games.

Nazareth (18-5-1 overall, 18-0-1 UCHC) has won 11 straight games with six of the last seven victories coming with a one-goal margin.

The Golden Flyers scored the lone goal in the first period to take an early lead. Freshman Meredith Boettcher took a centering pass from graduate student Makenna Wiljanen and sent a low shot into the corner of the goal for a 1-0 lead.

Manhattanville (12-10-2, 12-5-2) answered in the second period with five minutes remaining in the period to knot the score at 1-1.

Nazareth came out flying in the third period and the aggressive play paid off as sophomore Abby Flanagan sent a pass forward to the stick of Lyden who then sent a pass across the ice to Holstad as she raced from the opposite side of the ice and sent a puck over the glove of the Manhattanville goalie for the 2-1 lead.

The Nazareth defense held strong for the final 18:30 of the period to come away with the one-goal win.

The Golden Flyers dominated the face off circle with 47 wins in 68 draws and was only called for one penalty in the game.

Senior McKinley Hoff made 12 saves as Nazareth outshot the Valiants 38-13.

The same two teams meet at 1 p.m. Saturday to complete the weekend series and the regular season. Nazareth has already clinched the top seed in the UCHC Playoff bracket and will host No. 8 seed King's Tuesday to start the conference tournament.
