Alvernia Skates Past Lebanon Valley by 4-2 Score

HERSHEY, PA - Alvernia University (10-8-2, 8-7-2) used two second period goals to secure a 4-2 victory over Lebanon Valley College (5-15-1, 4-12-1) in a UCHC women's ice hockey matchup Friday afternoon at Lebanon Valley. 

The Dutchmen came within one in the third period but the Golden Wolves held off the Dutchmen and tallied a late goal to secure the 4-2 victory. 

How it Happened 
  • The Golden Wolves killed off a mid-period power play for the Dutchmen to keep the game at 0-0 early. Alvernia then got on the board with just over two minutes to play in the first period as Alex Robertson scored an unassisted goal.
  • Alvernia doubled its lead just over six minutes into the second period when Julia Franklin lit the lamp for the Golden Wolves with an unassisted goal to make it 2-0 Alvernia. 
  • The Dutchmen grabbed one back in the final five minutes of the second period when Alexa Spiers assisted Brenna Mulcahy to make it a 2-1 game. 
  • Alvernia responded almost immediately when Khenzie Connick connected with Sydney Bradley who put the puck into the back of the net to extend the Golden Wolves lead back to two with five minutes to go in the period. 
  • The Golden Wolves fired ten more shots at the Lebanon Valley goal in the final five minutes but were unable to add to their lead as they took a 3-1 advantage into the final intermission. 
  • Lebanon Valley came within one in the seventh minute of the third period when Victoria Scurto assisted Cheyenne Wilk to make it 3-2 Alvernia with 13 minutes left in the game. 
  • The Dutchmen fired 18 shots at the Alvernia net in the next 12 minutes but the Alvernia defense held strong with Julia Beaven tallying eight saves and the Golden Wolves recorded four blocked shots to deny the Dutchmen an equalizer. 
  • Alvernia added one more insurance goal in the final minute of the game when Franklin and Kathryn Palmer assisted Sikke Ask who lit the lamp and secured the 4-2 victory for the Golden Wolves. 

Inside the Box Score
  • The Golden Wolves were led by Franklin with a goal and an assist, her fourth multipoint game of the season. Franklin also led Alvernia with 12 face off wins. 
  • Alex Robertson, Sikke Ask and Sydney Bradley all tallied goals for Alvernia and Kathryn Palmer and Khenzie Connick both recorded assists. 
  • Julia Beaven tallied 21 saves in net for the Golden Wolves and recorded her seventh win of the season. 

Of Note
  • The Golden Wolves improve to 6-3 all time against the Dutchmen and have recorded four straight victories. 
  • This is the tenth time that the Golden Wolves have netted two or more goals in a victory on the season and the ninth time they have scored three or more.
