Wilkes Takes Down Hilbert 10-1 on Senior Day

WILKES-BARRE, PA – For the second time in as many days, the Wilkes women's ice hockey team set a new program record for goals in a single game, defeating Hilbert 10-1 in their non-conference Senior Day matchup on Saturday inside the Toyota SportsPlex.
 
The Colonels improved to 14-6-1 overall and boast a 9-6-1 record in UCHC play. The Hawks fell to 1-15-0 on the season.
 
Wilkes got on the board first while undermanned at 2:11 when Haylee Bouchard potted her fourteenth goal of the season. The shorthanded 1-0 marker was unassisted.
 
Roughly three minutes later, Milica Velcek doubled the Colonel lead with her fifth of the season. Sabrina Kotlarczyk assisted on the play at 5:36.
 
Bouchard tacked on another goal at 10:57 of the first frame. Rachel Morey and Breanna Herdine picked up helpers on Bouchard's fifteenth goal of the season and second of the afternoon.
 
Less than four minutes later, Jordan Ferry got in on the action with an unassisted goal at 12:42 to give Wilkes a 4-0 lead.
 
With less than three minutes left in the period, Abby Dawson scored to put Hilbert on the board prior to intermission. Anna Faulker picked up the lone assist on the 4-1 goal at 17:27.
 
Rachel Morey lit the lamp on her senior night at 3:21 of the second period. Anneke Bouma and Bouchard were both credited with assists on the 5-1 tally.
 
Julie Paterson added to the Colonel lead with her fifth of the season at 12:09 of the middle frame. Savanna Maxon and Ferry both snagged assists on Patterson's 6-1 goal.
 
Just over two minutes later, Lily Zingaro tacked on another goal which built the lead up to 7-1. Morey and Velcek were awarded helpers on the tally at 14:26.
 
Wilkes carried their momentum into the third as Breanna Herdine notched her first career collegiate goal 5:32 into the final period. Bouchard and Chayce Hynman assisted on the 8-1 goal.
 
Anneke Bouma kept the Colonel offense rolling by lighting the lamp at 7:58 of the final frame for her first goal of the season. Bouchard and Kotlarczyk grabbed assists on the 9-1 goal.
 
Ferry capped off an explosive day for the Wilkes offense with her second goal of the afternoon. Patterson assisted on the 10-1 goal at 15:41 of the third period.
 
Bouchard led the way with two goals and three assists. The five-point performance cemented her in first place for single-game points program record. Ferry also notched a pair of goals and recorded a team-high seven shots on goal for the Colonels. Morey collected three points on the afternoon while senior goaltender Addy Olson turned aside nine of the ten shots she faced in net.
 
Dawson posted a goal on five shots for Hilbert, who saw three-block performances by Abby MacNeil and Caitlin Conrad. In goal, Cassie Troy made 59 saves on 69 Wilkes shots.
 
The Colonels return to the Toyota SportsPlex on Friday, February 9 when they host Neumann University for their Youth Hockey Night game. Puck drop against the Knights is slated for 5:00 p.m.
