Flanagan Tallies Lone Goal as Nazareth Downs Lebanon Valley

ANNVILLE, PA – Sophomore Abby Flanagan netted her sixth goal of the season to help the Nazareth University Women's hockey team shutout Lebanon Valley 1-0 on Friday night. Nazareth tallies another in the win column for a 16-5-1 overall record (16-0-1 UCHC), and the Flying Dutchmen now stand 5-17-1 overall (4-14-1 UCHC).

Nazareth controlled play from puck-drop, but only managed to score just over halfway through the period.

On a delayed penalty for LVC, Flanagan pushed her way up ice and buried her own rebound for the eventual game-winning goal, with classmate Sydney Gurlea and graduate student Ingrid Holstad earning assists.

The first intermission came with Naz leading 1-0.

The Dutchmen came out fighting in the second period and played strong enough defense to hold back the Golden Flyers, while senior goaltended McKinley Hoff had an integral save in the last five minutes of the period to maintain the lead.

In the third period, Nazareth thought they increased the lead 2-0, but the goal was disallowed after the net was ruled to be off its pegs.

Despite great opportunities by both teams, Flanagan's goal was the only one on the night, and the game ended 1-0 after three periods of play.

The final shots on goal were 53-14 in favor of the Flyers, and Hoff earned her fourth shutout of the season with 14 saves.

The Golden Flyers are back at Hersheypark Arena tomorrow at 3 p.m. for a rematch against the Flying Dutchmen.
