PITTSBURGH, PA - On Saturday, the Cougars (6-0-0, 2-0-0) took on the Golden Flyers (3-3-0, 0-2-0) at home on parents' weekend. Chatham came back and overtook Nazareth to win by a score of 3-2.
Feeding off the ruckus crowd, composed of the players' friends and family, the Cougars jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, thanks to senior Nick Cyprian's 3rd goal of the season. His goal was assisted by Jake LaRusso. The Cougars left the door open after taking a 5-minute major penalty. While they killed off the penalty without allowing a goal, the momentum shifted in Nazareth's direction. They evened the score at 1-1 after a goal at the 16:40 mark of the first.
In the second period, the Golden Flyers took the lead 2-1. The Cougars struggled to find their footing, but goaltender Cameron Kuntar kept them in the game. In this frame, he made nine more saves to keep the Cougars within striking distance.
The Cougars evened the score at the 11:08 mark of the third period. Kyle Contessa scored his 3rd of the season and his second in as many games. With all the momentum on their side, Micahel Roby went hard to the net and buried his 4th goal of the season to put the Cougars up 3-2. Chatham held on following the last-ditch effort by Nazareth.
With the game-winning goal, Roby has now scored in three games straight, ties him for the team lead. Bekk McClaine added 2 assists, and LaRusso extended his point streak to start his Chatham career.
The Cougars will hit the road next against Brockport. Their matchup is scheduled for November 21 with a start time of 7 pm.
