FAIRPORT, NY – The St. John Fisher men's ice hockey team recorded its first-ever conference victory on Saturday night at the Rochester Ice Center, edging Elmira College 2-1. The Cardinals advanced to 4-2-0 (1-1-0 UCHC) with the victory, while the Soaring Eagles dropped to 2-4-0 (1-1-0 UCHC).
How it Happened
Elmira's Tyle Schwindt opened the scoring less than eight minutes into the first period, giving the Soaring Eagles an early 1-0 lead. With under five minutes left in the second period, Brendan Merriman scored on the power play off a setup from Michael Peluso and Leyton Pettypieve to tie it 1-1.
With fewer than ten minutes remaining in regulation, Wyatt Swonger and Ian Duffy set up James Evans, who fired in the go-ahead goal to give the Cardinals the win.
