Elmira and St. John Fisher Skate to 1-1 Tie; Soaring Eagles Earn Shootout Point

PINE VALLEY, NY – The Elmira College women's ice hockey team hosted St. John Fisher at the Murray Athletic Center for their second matchup of the weekend. An early goal from the Cardinals forced the Soaring Eagles to net the equalizer. Anna Lugge's goal in the second period forced overtime and a shootout, where Alayna Toole's shootout goal secure the win for Elmira.

PLAY-BY-PLAY
Elmira was strong on their offensive portion of the ice, outshooting St. John Fisher eleven to three in the first period of play. However, the Cardinals were first to struck courtesy of Keira Reckley to garner the 1-0 advantage. At the end of the first period, the Cardinals still held a 1-0 lead over the Soaring Eagles.

Looking to even the playing field, the Soaring Eagles netted the equalizer midway through the second period of play. Iliana Smith found Lugge to secure the 1-1 equalizer. Elmira once again out shot their opponents eleven to five, keeping the score even heading into the third period.

During the final period of play, the Soaring Eagles once again outshot the Cardinals 16 to three. St. John Fisher's goaltender Brynn Bacak had her work cut out for her, seeing her record 16 saves alone in the third period. With the score still locked at one, Elmira forced the Cardinals into overtime. 

During the first overtime period, both teams walked away with four shots on goal apiece. However, neither team proved triumphant forcing the match into a shootout. It took four shots before Alayna Toole was successful and Sara Sevcikova made the clutch save to secure the victory for the Soaring Eagles.
