Utica Earns Weekend Sweep With 6-0 Win Over Hilbert

UTICA, NY - Utica University's women's hockey team hosted the Hilbert College Hawks in the second of a two-game home miniseries. After an 8-0 win in game one, the Pioneers continued to hold momentum, winning game two by a score of 6-0. Utica now sits above .500 with a 3-2 overall record, and 2-0 UCHC record. Hilbert will continue to search for their first win, sitting at 0-4 overall and 0-2 within the conference.

Utica continued to show all-around offense in the contest, outshooting Hilbert 68-6. Of Utica's 19 skaters, only one did not take a shot on goal, with 10 players taking three or more. Cate Hart was the only player with multiple goals, scoring two herself and assisting on another. Kelsey Elliott was the only other player with both a goal and assist, tallying one of each. Utica's remaining goals were tallied by Maya Jerome, Chloe Needham-Potts, and Sophia Jimenez. Three Pioneers, Kaci Ryder, Samantha Dobrzynski, and Veronica Houk each assisted on two goals, with Angelina Garganese and Elliana Lasher each assisting once.

Utica once again opted to have each of their three goalies play one period. Katherine Sheahan started the game, seeing 0 shots, but being credited with the win. Alex Venning and Isabella Boehm each made three saves in their 20 minutes of play.

Hilbert's six shots on goal were split between three players. Victoria Battaglia led the team with three, followed by Kelsey Fuller's two, and Victoria Koenig's one. Koenig additionally led the Hawks with five blocked shots. Tia Card played the entire game in goal for Hilbert, saving 62 of the 68 shots she faced.

The Pioneers will now prepare for a home-and-home series against the #13-ranked Elmira College Soaring Eagles. The first game, scheduled for Friday, November 21st, has a 7:00 pm puck drop. The teams will return to Utica the following day, the 22nd, with the game scheduled to begin at 3:00 pm.
