Soaring Eagles Explode for 10 Goals in Dominant Win over King's College

PINE VALLEY, NY - The Elmira College men's hockey team hosted the King's College Monarchs at the Murray Athletic Center on Friday night in a non-conference matchup. Multi-goal games from Tyler Schwindt and Lucas Stevenson sparked an offensive explosion for the Soaring Eagles in a 10-4 win.

PLAY-BY-PLAY
The Monarchs got on the board first on a goal by Denys Arkhypenko to open the scoring. A strong response by the Soaring Eagles saw them level the game on a wrist shot from Tyler Schwindt ninety seconds later. EC continued to test the King's College netminder through the remainder of the first period, recording 18 shots on goal compared to the Monarchs six. With 34 seconds remaining in the opening period, Elmira took a 2-1 lead on a redirect by Owen Halloran featuring a slick feed from Nicholas Bennett. The Soaring Eagles went into the first intermission with a one goal advantage over the Monarchs.

It was an offensive explosion for EC in the second period as Spencer Barrow's shot trickled past the KC netminder to give Elmira a two-goal lead four minutes in. Michael Mumm sniped one home for his first goal as a Soaring Eagle to extend their lead. Schwindt found the back of the net on a power play rebound for his second of the game to put EC up 5-1. Lucas Stevenson followed suit with a tip-in goal quickly followed by Schwindt's wraparound goal a minute later to continue the route. EC closed the second period with a 7-1 lead over King's.

A power play goal by the Monarchs started off the third period scoring, but the Soaring Eagles quickly reasserted a six-goal lead on a rebound goal by Barrow, his second of the game. Brody Finnegan scored his first goal as a Soaring Eagle on a one-timer from Schwindt. King's College was able to pull two goals back before Elmira scored their final goal of the night on Stevenson's shorthanded breakaway goal. The final horn sounded with Elmira scoring 10 and King's College 4.
