CASTLETON, VT – The St. John Fisher University men's ice hockey team earned a 4-2 win over SUNY Brockport on Friday in the opening day of the Castleton Tournament at Spartan Arena. The Cardinals improved to 6-3-0 overall, while the Golden Eagles fall to 2-7-0 overall.
How it Happened
After Brockport's Nick Reif opened the scoring early in the opening period, the Cardinals pulled even just past the eight-minute mark when Brendan Merriman set up Kenneeth Brodie, who buried the tying goal.
The Cardinals took the lead 7:30 into the second period when Charlie Robinson finished a setup from Sam Ciappa and Mitchell Ferras for a power-play goal. The Golden Eagles tied the game with 45 seconds left in the second period when Aidan Taylor fired home a shot.
Five minutes into the final period, the Cardinals regained the lead again as Ian Emery buried a shot off a feed from Leyton Pettypiece. Sam Ciappa found the back of the net with less than a minute remaining in the contest, sealing the victory for the Cardinals.
