Chatham Celebrates Alumni Night with Record-Setting Victory, 13-2 Over Hiram

PITTSBURGH, PA  –  On Friday, Chatham Men's Hockey (11-2-0, 4-2-0 UCHC) faced off against Hiram College (1-10-1). The Cougars defeated the Terriers 13-2 for their third straight win. The Cougars' 13 goals set the single-game record in program history, beating the previous record, 10 goals, set earlier this season.

Pre-game, the Chatham Men's Hockey program recognized distinguished alumni with the class of 2025 participating in a ceremonial puck drop. Feeding off the energy brought by the pre-game festivities, the Cougars jumped out to an early lead. A minute into the game, Ian Norekvicus netted his 4th goal of the season, from Kowin Belsterling and Andrew Matino, on the power play to put the Cougars up 1-0. Michael Roby added his 9th goal of the season, to double the Cougars' lead, from Belsterling and Nicholas Babbie. A minute later, the Cougars kept the offense going, after Bekk McCaline's 3rd of the season, from Charlie. Chatham would end the period up 5-0 after Nick Cyprian's 8th goal of the year, and Babbie's 3rd of the season.

In the second period, Hiram answered back and cut the Cougars' lead to 5-1. Not phased, the Cougars added another goal; this time, True Crowe got his 4th of the season, assisted by Martino and Pendo. In the final seconds of the frame, Pendo notched his 5th of the year to extend the lead to 7-1. Goaltender Cameron Kuntar would end his night after two periods. He made 16 saves and recorded a .941 SV %, keeping the Terriers offense at bay.

To start the third period, first-year goaltender Noel Friedman replaced Kuntar, seeing first action of the season. Friedman would end the game making 5 saves. The high-powered Cougars' offense continued to assert their dominance throughout the final frame. Cyprian got his second of the game to make it 8-1. Moments later, Roby found the back of the next again, this time from Pomerantz and Belsterling. Cyprian, at the 7:09 mark, completed the hat trick on the power play, making the score 10-1. The proficient power play continued to impact the game as Martino and Dylan Young would add power-play goals, extending the lead to double-digits. Hiram would add one late, but Belsterling capped the night, scoring his third of the season, to clinch the 13-2 victory.

In total, 10 different Cougars recorded a goal, and 8 different players recorded multi-point games. Belsterling led the way with 5 points, followed closely by Roby's 4-point night. Cyprian, Pendo, Crowe, and Martino recorded 3 points each. First year, Drew Bailey also recorded his first career point.

Men's Hockey takes on Hiram tomorrow, Saturday, January 10th, for senior day. The ceremony will take place before the game, with puck drop scheduled for 1 pm at the Alpha Ice Complex.
