Albertus Magnus Cruises Past Elmira College to Complete Weekend Sweep

NEW HAVEN, CT – The Albertus Magnus College men's ice hockey team extended its winning streak to four games after completing a weekend sweep of Elmira College with a 5–1 victory in United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) action on Saturday night at Ralph Walker Ice Rink.

Maksim Tsegelnik (Moscow, Russia) led the Falcons with two goals, while Justin Sullivan (Laval, Quebec), AJ Lackas (Las Vegas, NV), and Brett Boucher (Fort McMurray, Alberta) each found the back of the net in the victory. Lackas' tally marked his first goal of the season.

Chace Hale (Pittsburgh, Pa.) stopped 35 of 36 shots he faced on the evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Falcons opened the scoring when Tsegelnik stole the puck right in front of the net, and hit one past Elmira goaltender, Cameron Manley to make it a 1-0 lead at the 19:22 mark of the first period. 
  • At the 7:51 mark of the second period, Albertus made it a 2-0 game, as Kyle Cupolo (Waterloo, Ontario) sent a shot toward the net that Sullivan redirected past the goalie to make it a 2-0 game.
  • Tsegelnik added his second goal of the night just two minutes later, slipping a shot through the five-hole at the 9:51 mark to extend the Falcons' lead to 3-0.
  • The Soaring Eagles got on the board at the 16:15 mark of the second period as Nicholas Bennett finished a close-range opportunity on the power play, slipping the puck past Hale to make it a 3–1 game.
  • The Falcons answered immediately as Linas Dedinas (Vilnius, Lithuania) carried the puck from center ice, turned, and threaded a pass between two defenders to find Lackas charging toward the net, who scored his first goal of the season to give the Falcons a 4-1 lead.
  • Boucher sealed the 5-1 win for the Falcons, as he finished a centering pass from Caden Pattison (Lake Stevens, Wash.) at the 18:45 mark of the second period.
