POTSDAM, NY - Chatham Women's Hockey (1-11-2, 0-4-0 UCHC) took on SUNY Potsdam (6-6-2, 1-2-1 SUNYAC) on Saturday, in game two of their weekend series. The Cougars fell to the Bears 3-2 in overtime.
The first period saw a continuation of the strong back-and-forth and defensive-minded play from game one of the series. Neither team could find the back of the net and went into the first intermission in a scoreless 0-0 tie. First-year goaltender Morgan Miller continued her strong play from last night, making 12 key saves. As a team, the Cougars ended the period with 7 shots on goal. First-year Cade Wiley led the way with 2 shots on goal.
After trading early chances in the second period, the Cougars would break the deadlock. At the 5:35 mark, Klara Miuller made a move around a defender and fired the puck over the goaltender's right shoulder, earning her team's leading 5th goal of the season, putting the Cougars up 1-0. The goal was assisted by Isabella Allsopp and Hailey Braaten, both of whom extended their point streaks to three games. At 14:14, the Bears would answer back on the powerplay to tie the game 1-1. The teams would enter the third period for the second straight game in a deadlock, setting themselves up for another close finish.
In the third period, the Cougars would take the lead. Klara Miuller scored her 2nd of the game, from Sophia Taylor and Anabel Lota, to give the Cougars a slim 2-1 lead. The Bears would answer back a minute later to tie the game again and force overtime. The Bears would score 32 seconds into the extra frame, completing the comeback.
Klara Miuller led the way offensively, scoring two goals. Defensively, Emery Gelinas picked up a game-high 5 blocks. Morgan Miller continued her strong play after last night's performance, making 39 saves, good for a .929 SV%.
The Cougars will return for a UCHC match-up against Nazareth on January 23. Puck drop is slated for 6:30 pm in Rochester, NY.
