PINE VALLEY, NY - The Soaring Eagles women's hockey team hosted the Herons of William Smith College, where Elmira College came out on top, 2-0, to improve their record to 9-3-1.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
The Soaring Eagles started off strong, getting pucks on net and creating chances. The William Smith netminder stood tall, and some puck luck went the Herons' way as EC hit the iron twice. The period ended scoreless, with Elmira outshooting their opponents, 15–4.
The Herons began the second period on a power play that was successfully killed by EC. The Soaring Eagles used that momentum to break through, as Mo McBride found the back of the net with a shot from the point. EC continued to create chances, and Abby Eselunas doubled the lead with just over three minutes remaining in the period. The Soaring Eagles took a 2–0 lead into the second intermission.
William Smith spent much of the third period pressing to get back into the game, but strong goaltending from Olivia Last and solid penalty-kill work by EC made it difficult. With the Herons on a 5-on-3 power play, they pulled their netminder to make it six-on-three with three minutes remaining. The Soaring Eagles successfully killed the penalty to close out the 2–0 win.
