HAMBURG, NY – Hilbert College Women's Hockey hosted Hood College for a second straight day this afternoon inside the Nike Base. The Hawks scored a trio of powerplay goals and held a one-goal lead after 40 minutes, but a late Hood rally and an overtime winner pushed the visiting Blazers past the Hawks, 4–3.
Hilbert struck first late in the opening period, capitalizing on its second power-play opportunity. Brooke Kwiecien found space at the left circle and buried a feed from Victoria Battaglia and Jacqueline Alaburda at 16:47, giving the Hawks a 1–0 lead heading into intermission. Hood pressured heavily early in the frame, but Tia Card stood tall between the pipes, turning away all 12 Blazer attempts in the first twenty minutes.
The Hawks extended their advantage just 19 seconds into the second period when Alaburda deflected a Battaglia point shot for Hilbert's second powerplay tally of the contest. Kelsey Fuller also recorded an assist on the goal. Hood responded with a quick push of its own, scoring goals at 2:10 and 10:53 to draw level at 2–2.
Hilbert regained momentum late in the frame when Kwiecien converted her second power-play goal of the afternoon at 15:12. After Battaglia won the faceoff to Alaburda, she found Kwiecien alone in front of the net to restore a 3–2 lead entering the second intermission.
When the third period began, Card continued to anchor the Hawks stopping the first 17 shots of the frame, but Hood eventually found the equalizer with the extra attacker on the ice. Sofie Ancona buried the tying goal at 19:09, sending the contest into overtime.
In the extra frame, Ancona struck again at 1:57, lifting the Blazers to the sudden-death victory.
Card finished the afternoon with 52 total saves while the defensive unit of the Hawks blocked 20 shots, led by seven from Caitlin Conrad.
Kwiecien led the Hilbert attack with two goals, both on the power play, while Alaburda contributed a goal and two assists. Battaglia added three assists, and 12 faceoff wins, and Fuller recorded a helper.
