FAIRPORT, NY – The St. John Fisher women's ice hockey team earned its first-ever United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) victory on Friday night, taking down Manhattanville 3-1 at the Rochester Ice Center. The Cardinals improved to 6-9-1 overall (1-3-1 UCHC), while Manhattanville dropped to 2-13-1 (2-3-0 UCHC).
How It Happened
The Cardinals opened the scoring early in the first period on the power play, as freshman forward Sophie Grant buried her team-leading sixth goal of the season at the 2:34 mark. Freshmen forwards Eibhleann Knox and Ellie Prantner tallied assists on the game's first tally.
Manhattanville's Jayden Wilder found the back of the net just 45 seconds into the second period to tie the game, but the Cardinals regained the lead less than two minutes later. Freshman forward Erin Lantry netted her third goal of the season at the 2:05 mark on assists from junior forward Cameran Evans and freshman forward Nicole Doeringer.
Freshman defender Brooklyn Joyce gave the Cardinals a 3-1 lead later in the second period, netting her first collegiate goal on a feed from fellow freshman defender Jailey Wilson.
Freshman goalkeeper Brynn Bacak made 24 stops, including 11 in the third period.
