Chatham Finishes Sweep of St. John Fisher to Extend Winning Streak

FAIRPORT, NY – Chatham Men's Hockey (14-2-0, 5-2-0 UCHC) took on St John Fisher (9-9-0, 2-7-0 UCHC) in game two of their weekend series on Saturday. The Cougars beat the Cardinals 4-2 to remain unbeaten in 2026 and extend their win streak to seven games.

The Cougars jumped out, controlling much of the play in the first period. They were awarded two power plays early in the game but were unable to convert, as the game remained scoreless. The Cougars would break the deadlock at 11:22, when the red-hot Michael Roby found the back of the net, after a scrum in front of the net. His 16th goal of the season was assisted by Kowin Belsterling. Defensively, goaltender Cameron Kuntar continued his strong play, stopping all 12 shots on goal he faced. The Cougars headed into the intermission with a slim 1-0 lead.

Early in the second period, the Golden Flyers tied the game at 1-1 after scoring a goal at the 1:25 mark. Not phased, the Cougars responded on the power play.  At 5:07, Michael Roby picked the corner for his second goal of the game, assisted by Kowin Belsterling. The Golden Flyers tied the game once again at 12:27, this time making it 2-2. 13 seconds later, Jake LaRusso buried his 7th goal of the season, on a surprise shot with assists going to Nick Cyprian and Tyler Samodral. The Cougars would extend their lead to 4-2 at 18:50 of the second period. Kowin Belsterling scored his 6th of the season, from True Crowe and Bekk McClaine.

The teams went scoreless in the third period, largely due to the Cougars' strong defensive play. Cameron Kuntar made 15 of his game-time 36 saves in the final frame. He ended the game with a .947 SV%. Jake LaRusso also led all skaters with a game-high 2 blocks.

Offensively, Kowin Belsterling led the team, picking up 1 goal and 2 assists for his six multi-point games of the season. Michael Roby extended his team lead in goals after picking up another 2 on the night. In all, 7 different Cougars picked up points in today's contest as the Cougars balanced attack continues to find success.

The Cougars will return home on January 30th for a crucial UCHC matchup with (#12/#11) Geneseo, whom the Cougars trail by one spot in the conference standings. Puck drop is scheduled for 4 pm at the Alpha Ice Complex.
